DENTAL SERVICES
Routine cleaning is the key to maintaining a beautiful smile from childhood to late adulthood. It is usually recommended that you visit every 6 months in order to maintain your dental health, and to practice good oral hygiene in between visits as well as maintaining a balanced diet. Preventive measures to remove harmful plaque and bacteria from your teeth lessen gum inflammation. Less inflammation lowers your risk for heart disease, diabetes, and complications during pregnancy. Some of the crucial steps we take to ensure your health and wellness are:
Professional Exams & Cleaning: During preliminary and regular visits your dentist will perform a thorough examination and cleaning of your teeth
X-Rays: Digital X-Rays are essential to identify any issues not visible to the naked eye. Detecting problems early is instrumental in preventing any avoidable loss of dental health, comfort and money!
Fluoride Treatments: Fluoride is a natural mineral that supports the outer protective layer of your teeth, the enamel, and also fights harmful bacteria. It has been a standard for oral health treatment for many decades.
Sealants: Applied to the chewing surface of molars, premolars, and any deep groves of teeth, sealant is used to help smooth the surface of these hard to clean surfaces to prevent cavities.
Crowns: Crowns are coverings for teeth that are damaged in order to restore them to working condition. These can be used for weakened teeth suffering from a fracture, a large filling or a tooth that is misshaped or discolored.

Bridges: Bridges are used to disguise a missing tooth and there are many options available to achieve the most natural look! They are attached to two surrounding teeth, known as the “anchors”, to ensure the replacement remains for many years to come.
Regular cleanings and exams are preventive measures for Periodontal Disease. A disease which effects the gums and bone that supports the teeth. Periodontal Disease is caused by a buildup of Calculus on the teeth from inadequate removal of Plaque. Plaque is composed of food debris, bacteria, and saliva left behind by poor brushing and flossing habits. The symptoms of the disease are red, swollen, and bleeding gums.
When caught at the early stage of gingivitis, damage is reversible with professional treatment and improved oral care at home. If the disease is not caught until later stages more intense measures will have to be taken to limit the effects of the disease on health of the patient. Treatment is dependent on a case-by-case analysis performed by Dr. Mouzon and our dental hygienists.

If there are problems identified during a professional exam that need restorative treatment, your dentist will review all of the possible courses of action. Dr. Mouzon will work to ensure that the treatment will be the best option for your individual circumstances so as to ensure that it is the most effective as well as most comfortable.
Restorative procedures include:
Dental Fillings: Fillings are used to restore the structural integrity of your teeth, and there are four main options of fillings to choose from; gold, amalgam, composite resin, and porcelain. Each type has its own advantages and disadvantages so your dentist will work with you to identify which is best for you.
Dental Implant Restorations: Dental implants are a permanent solution to replacing missing teeth. They are implanted into the bone socket of the missing tooth and can last for many years when properly taken care of.
Crown (Caps): Sometimes referred to as a cap, a Crown is a small covering for a damaged tooth to ensure that it is not further damaged. They can also be used for cosmetic reasons such as covering misshaped or discolored teeth.
Dentures & Partial Dentures: Dentures are used to replace missing teeth or teeth that otherwise cannot be restored and must be removed. Partial dentures are used when not all of the teeth are missing. They ensure that the remaining teeth do not shift.
Fixed Bridges: Fixed Bridges are another option for replacing missing teeth. They are affixed to “anchoring” teeth which surround the missing space and are not removable.
Root Canal Therapy: Root canal therapy is used to restore a tooth suffering from decay or infection of its nerve to its original working function. It is achieved by removing any decay as well as the living tissue inside the tooth, nerves, and bacteria and filling the remaining cavity with special dental materials. This procedure is not performed in house, but we can refer you to a specialist, an Endodontist.
Dental emergencies are just that - emergencies. At Mouzon, we will make every effort to address the emergency during our regular business hours whether it is a cracked tooth, lost filling, missing crown, or a toothache.
Tooth Extractions: While Dr. Mouzon and his dental hygienist will try every measure possible to restore your dental health, there are some instances when tooth extractions may be the best option available.
It is important to start a healthy relationship between your child and his/her dentist at a young age. Children’s teeth pose special problems in terms of dental hygiene. It is more difficult to ensure that children’s teeth are properly cleaned. Children are also known to enjoy sugary foods which lead to tooth decay. Although their baby teeth are going to be replaced by permanent teeth once they are older, it is important to maintain healthy baby teeth as they are a foundation for children’s health and development.
At Mouzon Family Dentistry, we work to ensure not only that your children’s teeth are taken care of, but also that your child is comfortable. It is important that your child is comfortable during their routine exams and cleanings, so that they remain a routine for them throughout their life, guaranteeing their dental health is well taken care of.
Adolescence is a time of much change in a person’s life, and that doesn’t stop at dental care either. It is when children begin to truly take care of their dental health on their own – something they may not be the most enthusiastic about. It is also when they are most likely to begin their journey with braces. These two factors attribute to adolescence having the highest rate of cavity formation for people. It is imperative that teenagers receive the best oral care possible during these years to ensure there is no lasting damage to their oral health.
Increased hormones during teenage years also put young adults at a higher risk for gum disease. Their fluctuation in hormone levels change the bacterial makeup and blood circulation throughout their gums, which when combined with inadequate oral hygiene can lead to gingivitis and ultimately periodontal disease.
Adolescence is also the most common time for people to start noticing movement in their wisdom teeth, which can create issues within their mouth if there is not enough room to support these extra teeth. Therefore, it is important that wisdom teeth be monitored closely through the use of x-rays to make sure removal of these teeth is done before they are able to create any issues.
Threats to oral health continue throughout life, which is why continuing your regular exams and cleanings is so important. As people age, they may begin to experience new issues with their dental health. Some may experience issues caused by the receding of gums that expose the more fragile root surfaces, leaving them exposed to the possibility of decay. Some also might experience issues with maintaining adequate oral hygiene because of poor vision, or physical limitations. Mouzon Family Dentistry is here to ensure that your teeth are well looked after and will stick with you as long as possible.
